GROVER BEACH - Its a neighborhood that residents call typical and quiet.
But the last 24 hours were anything but typical for the people who live near the corner of 8th Street and Mentone Avenue in Grover Beach.
They found themselves in the middle of an overnight police standoff involving a man with a gun.
Police say William Forgey shot and killed himself after he was wanted for allegedly shooting his estranged wife last weekend inside the home on Mentone Avenue.
"There were helicopters, there were SWAT teams", says neighbor Little Sky, "there were a whole slew of police vehicles closing off an entire neighborhood."
Mentone Avenue resident Little Sky, as she requested to be referred to as, says she was forced to evacuate her home right next door to the standoff at 1:00am.
"Having to crouch down my driveway and run with SWAT teams covering me was the most frightening thing", Little Sky says, "it was absolutely necessary because I was very close by."
Because of the tear gas that filled the home during the standoff, neighbors helped remove the furniture to keep it from being ruined and offer support to the family as it struggles to cope with an apparent domestic dispute that ended tragically.
"The community needs to band together and realize they are as much a victim, if not more, than anyone else that this could have happened to", Little Sky says, "so rather than stigmatize their situation, we need to band together and give them as much positive support as possible., and we need to, more importantly, keep their privacy in sight at all times."
Other neighbors Central Coast News spoke with say they agree with how police handled the situation, evacuating some residents and locking down others in their home, given the unpredicatbility of the situation.
