Shots Fired Near Highway 41 in Atascadero

ATASCADERO, Calif.- Five men were detained after several reports of gunshots near Highway 41 at Riverbed came in to the Atascadero Police Department around 5pm Saturday evening.

When officers got there, they found a group of five men in their 20's in the thick brush along the highway. Officers found infra-red cameras to locate the men, who said they were target shooting.

Police detained the men then released them with a court date. It is illegal to shoot a gun in the city limits of Atascadero and that close to a highway.

Police said Highway 41 was shutdown for a short time, but has since been re-opened.
