SANTA MARIA -- Just after 5:30 P.M. Sunday evening, the Santa MAria Police Dept. got a call of shots fired on the 400 block on N. Oakley.

Police say a male adult went up to a residence and knocked at the door, making threats to the people inside.

When the homeowner answered the door, the male subject showed a handgun at the resident. The resident, who was also armed, inside his home, shot the subject several times with his handgun.

Paramedics transported the suspect with gunshot wounds to Marian Regional Medical Center.

He was later air-lifted to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara for gunshot wounds to his upper torso and thumb.  It is unknown the severity of his injuries at this time.
