SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - San Luis Obispo County residents, Grant and Donna Hoag make a donation of $250,000 dollars to French Hospital Medical Center to help build a new Cardiac Surgical Suite.
According to the hospital foundation, they received a $250,000 grant from the George Hoag Family Foundation to help build a new, state-of-the-art Advanced Cardiac Hybrid Surgical Suite at FHMC's Copeland, Forbes and Rossi Cardiac Care Center. This suite - the first of its kind between Los Angeles and San Francisco - will combine an advanced cardiovascular catheterization lab, interventional radiology and operating room for non-invasive and open-heart procedures.
The Advanced Cardiac Hybrid Surgical Suite represents a new model of multidisciplinary service, bringing together a cardiac operating room and catheterization services into one united space. Hybrid surgical suites are the next generation of health care delivery for cardiac interventional procedures, allowing for multiple procedures at one time, saving the patient time and the benefit of collaborative talents between physician specialties. Physicians can address patient needs quickly, eliminating the need for scheduling additional surgical procedures and allowing for minimally invasive procedures. The co-location of multiple specialties also removes the need to move the patient from one space to another in the event of a complication that requires transition from an interventional procedure to open surgery.
Grant and Donna Hoag, long-time residents of San Luis Obispo County, chose to support this project through the family foundation to make a difference in the quality of health care available in the community. "We believe it is important to have the most advanced cardiac technology close to home. When a cardiac emergency arises, there is no time to leave the area for your health care" said Grant Hoag.
The new Advanced Cardiac Hybrid Surgical Suite is part of a significant overall hospital modernization project currently underway at FHMC, a not-for-profit, community hospital. "This project demonstrates FHMC's commitment to bring the most recent advancements in medicine and health information to our community while enhancing the care provided to our patients," said Alan Iftiniuk, FHMC President and CEO.

The George Hoag Family Foundation is a Santa Monica-based private philanthropic organization established in 1940 by the late Grace and George Hoag Sr. The foundation supports many charitable endeavors, particularly health related causes. George and Grace Hoag Sr. were involved in the initial organization of the J.C. Penny store chain. This is the second grant that FHMC has received from the George Hoag Family Foundation to support new technology at the hospital.
