SANTA MARIA - Witnesses tell Central Coast News at least three young men approached a home on the 400 block of North Oakley Avenue just after 5:00pm Sunday night.
Words were exchanged between the men and at least one person inside the home, and according to one witness Central Coast News spoke with who asked not to reveal his identity, gunfire erupted.
"We heard what sounded like fireworks, you know like three or four pops that went off", the witness says, "one of the young ladies came back and said they were shooting outside."
The same witness tells Central Coast News he saw men jump into a vehicle and drive away from the scene and one person inside the home holding onto a gun with his arm hanging out of the window.
Santa Maria Police say a gunshot victim from the same incident was airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with multiple gun shot wounds to the upper body.
Neighbors say the shooting happened just as young children playing outside were being called into their homes for supper.
Little is known right now about a motive for the shooting and if gunfire was exchanged between everyone involved or if it came only from someone in the house.
Two years ago neighbors on N. Oakley Avenue saw a man killed not far from where Sunday night's shooting took place.
The name of the shooting victim has not been released, nor has the name of the individual witnesses say was holding a gun outside a window at the home on N. Oakley Ave. where the shooting took place.
