LOMPOC, Calif. - The Lompoc Valley Master Chorale has been bringing musical performances to the area for over two decades now. The Master Chorale is preparing for their Christmas concert this Friday and Saturday evening at the First United Methodist Church in Lompoc.
It's one of the two major concerts that the choir group prepares for over the course of the year. Music director Kathleen Hacker says this year's concert, titled "A Christmas Journey", will feature some unique elements.
"It has lots of humor," says Hacker. "I like to give a variety of music for the crowd."
Hacker is in her 6th year as the music director for the Master Chorale. She was a singer for the group when it was formed 21 years ago. Hacker says the group was formed to enliven the choir culture in the area and share it with the Central Coast.
"I enjoy music so much. It's something I want to share with the singers and the community," says Hacker. "And I'm really blessed to have this position."
The group meets once a week to practice for their concerts. Hacker says she enjoys the camaraderie between the singers.
"I think I've become a comedian when I get up in front of the group," says Hacker. "Some things come out of me that I don't expect."
With all the preparation that has gone into this Christmas concert, Hacker is looking forward to the grand finale.
"The program is going to be great," says Hacker. "We have some popular tunes, we have the classics, we have it all."
