Body of Missing Man Found on Santa Cruz Island

SANTA CRUZ ISLANDS, Calif. -- Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies said they found the body of a missing Ohio man on Santa Cruz Island.

Officers said the body was discovered Tuesday morning just after 8:00 a.m. Deputies found 23-year old Christopher Anthony Mondiek, dead on the beach.

Members of the National Park Service, Santa Barbara and Ventura County search and rescue teams found the body. Investigators said they think Mondiek died after falling off one of the cliffs.

A private boating company reported Mondiek missing on Monday and said he did not return after an overnight trip to Santa Cruz Island. Mondiek's car was found in the Ventura Harbor parking lot.

The coroner's detectives will do a full investigation on how Mondiek died. Investigators said they believe the death was an accident.
