Former Eastern Washington linebacker JC Sherritt has agreed to a new, three-year deal with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League.

Sherritt was the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player last season. The new contract kept him from becoming a free agent. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"JC personifies what is meant when we say ‘Eskimo Way'," said coach Kavis Reed in a news release. "He is an extremely talented player who has the character beyond reproach. He is a core player who will help us in our championship quest."

The former Eastern Eagle made a league-leading 130 tackles in 2012. He also had three sacks, two special teams tackles, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, two knockdowns and five interceptions.
