SANTA MARIA, Calif.- Santa Maria Fire Department responded to a house fire Monday evening just before 7:30pm.
Crews say the fire broke out in the 1200 block of North College Drive. Initial reports indicated that there was a person trapped inside. When crews arrived they found smoke venting from the back of the home. As the crew made their way to the front door, they found that the reported trapped person was able to get out. That person was transported to Marian Medical Center to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were able to salvage Christmas presents, clothing and personal belongings of the four family members.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and preliminary damage is estimated at $100,000 for the structure and $40,000 for the contents.
