San Luis Obispo Superior Court Gets New Judge, Rita C. Federman

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – A local judge is getting a new job, courtesy of Governor Brown. Rita C. Federman will now set up shop as a San Luis Obispo County Superior Court judge.

Governor Brown made it official announcing the appointment of Rita C. Federman to a judgeship in the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court.

Federman, 50, of San Luis Obispo, has served as a United States Magistrate Judge at the United States District Court for the Central District of California since 2004, where she served as judicial staff attorney from 1991 to 1999.

Federman also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the San Luis Obispo Legal Alternatives Corporation, where she has been a member since 2004. She was a judicial staff attorney and a judge pro tempore at the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court from 1999 to 2004 and an associate attorney at Shearer Lanctot Walsh and Knorp from 1989 to 1990.

Federman earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the California Western School of Law and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Teresa Estrada-Mullaney. Federman is a Democrat.

The compensation for this position is $178,789.
