PISMO BEACH, Calif. -- The
California Coastal Commission is holding another meeting starting January 9th.
Central Coast News breaks down three of the top
concerns the Commission will be hearing including the controversial seismic
testing, seawalls in Pismo Beach and the Morro Bay wastewater plant.
Back in November, the Commission denied PG&E's off
shore seismic testing near Diablo Canyon. At that meeting the Commission asked
it's own staff to bring revised findings that support its reasons for denying
the application.
Morro Bay residents are trying to
figure out what to do with its wastewater plant. On January 10th, the Commission will consider the
application to demolish the plant and rebuild a new one at the same location.
But the Commission staff is recommending the project be
denied because they believe the site is too close to the beach and should be
placed more inland.
The City Of Morro Bay opposes the
recommendation because to move the new plant inland would be a huge expense for
the city.
The Commission will consider a seawall proposed by the U.S.
Army Corps Of Engineers to protect the existing Saint Andrews and Vista Del Mar
lift stations next to Memory Park. The Corps proposes modifying an existing
wall, moving it inward and higher.
The Commission is recommending approval of the
modifications.
But the seismic debate isn't
over. After the hearing PG&E still has a chance to appeal the Coastal
Commission's decision within 30 days to the Secretary of Commerce.
The Commission says it expects to
make final decisions immediately after those hearings and update those decisions
on its website at www.coastal.ca.gov
