SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A fire broke out in San Luis Obispo Thursday afternoon in a building adjacent to Planned Parenthood just before 3 p.m.

The fire broke out in a 113-year-old apartment building at 729 Pismo Street and was put out in less than 30 minutes.

No humans were hurt but a dog that lived on the second floor did die.

San Luis Obispo Fire says the fire was an accident and involved a couch that was placed  over a natural gas floor furnace on the first floor that was in use at the time.

Damages are estimated to be more than $500,000.

Nine residents were living there at the time and one jumped out of a window to escape the fire according to officials. All nine are getting help from the American Red Cross.
