Police Increase DUI Patrols Leading into New Years

Posted: Updated:

PASO ROBLES, Calif. -- Police departments across the Central Coast are ramping up DUI patrols and traffic enforcement starting Friday December 28th to New Years.

Paso Robles Police, Santa Barbara Police and other law enforcement agencies will be starting their DUI checkpoints around 6:00 p.m. till 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Paso Robles police said one of their checkpoints will be held in the 1300 block of Spring Street starting at 7:00 p.m. Santa Barbara police have not announced where they will be doing their checkpoints in the city.

Police hope that having more checkpoints set up will help convince people not to drink and drive. Officers said they hope to arrest more drivers for DUI rather than find them in a collision.

Santa Barbara police said funding for the enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

If you see someone who appears to be driving drunk, call 911.
