SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A San Luis Obispo Police Department marked vehicle, was part of a hit and run on Highway 101 near the Prado Road exit early Monday morning. The officer hit has a small cut on the back of his right hand.
The SLO Police Department says that the vehicle is a Chevy Silverado make from the early 2000s and has a ladder in the bed. It was last seen shortly after the crash near the intersection of Los Osos Valley Road and Calle Joaquin.
According to SLO Police Department: On 12/31/12 at approximately 6:15am Sgt. Jeff Booth was driving a marked police vehicle when he entered the northbound 101 Freeway at the Prado Road entrance. While traveling northbound on the freeway a vehicle traveling at an excessive speed ran into the back end of the police vehicle. The impact caused the police vehicle to loose traction and slide off the roadway into the center median of the freeway where it impacted with a guardrail.
Fortunately Sgt. Booth was wearing proper restraints and air bags within the vehicle deployed. Sgt. Booth sustained only minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The suspect vehicle fled the scene northbound on Freeway 101.
At this time the San Luis Obispo CHP is in charge of the investigation. Additional leads regarding the suspect vehicle and its driver are being developed. Citizens with information are encouraged to contact CHP Officer Gennuso at 593-3333.
