Correctional Officer Goes to Prison for Helping Smuggle Drugs & Cell Phones

SALINAS, Calif. - A former correctional officer at the Correctional Training Facility State Prison at Soledad, is going to prison for 6 years.

31-year-old Jose Fuentes was convicted of bribery and sentenced by Judge Pamela Butler. While working as a correctional officer at CTF, Fuentes systematically smuggled drugs and cellular phones into CTF to inmates for monetary profit, over a span of 2 years.

Because he violated his position of authority and trust as a sworn peace officer and public employee, Judge Pamela Butler denied the defendant's request for probation and sentenced him to prison.

The case was investigated by the Office of Internal Affairs of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
