SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Deputies said two inmates were taken into custody after escaping from the Blaine St. Women's Facility in Santa Cruz.

Deputies said 19-year old Melissa Bica and 25-year old Domenika Galpren climbed a secuity fence and walked away from the jail. Officers said it happened on New Years Eve.

The two women didn't make it very far. A corrections officer saw the two inmates leaving the facility. Both women were caught a few minutes later at the 76 Gas Station on Ocean and Water Street.

Deputies said Bica was in custody for drug charges and theft. Galpren was serving time for auto theft charges.
