Man Shot in Salinas; Police Suspect Gang Involvement

SALINAS, Calif. - Salinas Police are looking for two men who they say shot a 20-year-old just before 8:30 Thursday evening on the corner of Mae Ave. and Cortez St.

They say the male victim was suffering from gunshot wounds to his lower back when they arrived on scene.

According to police, the victim said he was walking south on Mae Ave. when a minivan drove past him. The vehicle stopepd and two men got out of the van.

Police said the suspects asked the victim if he was a gang member but when the victim did not respond, one of the suspects opened fire. The victim ran from the suspects and hid as the two men ran south on Mae Ave.

The suspect who opened fire was described wearing a gray hoodie with the hood tied tightly around his face. The description of the suspect and vehicle was limited.

The victim was flown to a Bay Area hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
