SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- Officials from the Santa Barbara City Fire Department are investigating the cause of a structure fire that happened Thursday afternoon.

Just after noon, crews from the Santa Barbara City Department were called to the 500 block of Chapala Street to tackle a large commercial fire. Additional units from the city as well as assistance from Montecito and Santa Barbara County Fire were requested.

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered the fire had spread across two larger sections of the building through the common attic space and was threatening adjacent buildings. Crews were able to knock down the blaze within 30 minutes.
