SANTA MARGARITA, Calif- Two people are in the hospital and one of them is in custody after a Toyota Prius collided with a semi truck this morning. The accident happened on highway 58 in Santa Margarita, near Navajo Creek Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol the driver of the Prius veered out of his lane and collided with the semi truck, crushing the driver and passenger into the car, and trapping the driver. The driver then had to be extricated and flown to Sierra Vista hospital. CHP said he had major injuries and was arrested for DUI. The passenger also had some injuries as well.

"The passenger was a female passenger, and she only had complaints of pain, so she was transported via ground ambulance," said CHP Officer Bill Long.

The semi driver was on scene and did not have any injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
