GOLETA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, CHP and several other agencies helped arrest Binisio Nicolas Pereda after he failed to pull over on a traffic stop near the Santa Barbara Airport.

Deputies said Pereda took off on Highway 217 and started driving the wrong way down Highway 101. Several law enforcement personnel from the California Highway Patrol, U.C.S.B. Police Department, County Probation, Santa Barbara Police Department, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, County Air Support Unit and Canine Teams all responded in the area of Ward Drive and Hollister Ave.

Officers began a pursuit on foot after witnesses at a mobile home park said Pereda abandoned his car and ran off.

The Air Support Unit saw Pereda swimming in a lagoon and were able to talk him into swimming ashore where he surrendered.

Pereda was transported to Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital for a medical evaluation, then booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, felony resisting, outstanding felony warrants and several other violations.
