SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Santa Barbara County Main Jail was placed on lockdown this morning after a disturbance out in the exercise yard.
According the Sheriff's Department office: At approximately 11am there was a disturbance in the Main Jail exercise yard.
At the time of the incident there were approximately 36 inmates in the exercise yard. Custody Deputies immediately responded and quelled the incident.
One inmate was transported to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury received during the disturbance, while five inmates were treated by jail medical staff for minor injuries.
No staff members were injured during this incident. Standard protocol in these types of incidents that involve several inmates includes an immediate lock down of the jail.
The lock down will be maintained while jail staff conducts an investigation into the cause of the incident.
It is anticipated that the lock down will continue into the weekend, causing an interruption or full-cancellation of the weekend visitation schedule.
Those persons planning to visit an inmate at the jail this weekend should call the jail at 805-681-4260 prior to coming to the jail, to determine if visitation has been resumed.
