SANTA MARIA, Calif. -- The Santa Maria Fire Department responded to a fire at a home in the 400 block of Chaparral Street.
The first arriving units reported smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom window.
The family inside safely left the residence before the fire department arrived. No one was injured.
"Red cross is en route and they will get put up for the next few nights until their insurance kicks in," says Santa Maria Fire Chief Dan Orr. "We're not going to allow them to stay here just because of the smoke damages. Pretty heavy smell throughout the house"
The cause of the fire is under investigation and damages are estimated at nearly $150,000.
