SALINAS, Calif. -- For Rita Acosta living in a tent when its cold, gets even worse, when it rains.
"In the nighttime you end up with a wet blanket," said Acosta.
But for years, a guardian angel who goes by Rose, collects blankets from people in the community, gathers them in a trailer and takes them to people who need them the most. People like Acosta.
Central Coast News couldn't reach Rose today, but Dorothy's Place Development Director Jill Allen said the people there have been anxiously waiting for that annual delivery. This year 300 blankets never came.
"Last week she let us know that the blankets have arrived and they were in a trailer in front of her house and she was planning on delivering them the next day," said Allen.
That very morning, the trailer was stolen from Rose's house. The trailer is described as a white "Wells Cargo" trailer with the license plate number of 4EA9365.
"There's lots of people that really need these blankets this time of year," said Allen.
With no way to make up that loss in the Dorothy's Place budget, all Allen can hope for is the community's support all over again.
