MORRO BAY, Calif. - The coroner's office said the person killed in the Morro Bay RV fire is 73-year old Karen Moreland. They said no foul play is suspected.
The Recreational Vehicle involved in a deadly fire Monday night did not have any working smoke alarms.
Fire crews responded to the fire around 6:35 Monday night at the Rancho Colina Mobile Home Park.
A cat and dog escaped without any injuries but a 73-year-old woman died because of injuries from the fire.
Officials say the smoke alarms in the RV did not have batteries.
CAL FIRE Captain Zach Nichols tells Central Coast News, "We found two smoke detectors. They both did not have batteries. They both did not go off. Smoke detectors save lives absolutely. Any kind of smoke, however this started, they would have been able to alert the occupant and they would have got out."
Cal Fire Investigators and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Strike Team have determined that the fire began in the kitchen area of the RV. The cause is still under investigation.
