SALINAS, Calif. -- Monday was a busy night on Salinas streets, as police responded to two deadly shootings within just an hour of each other.
On Tuesday, police identified the homicide victim at Acosta Plaza's shooting as Manuel Martinez Leon (47) a Salinas resident. Leon was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, it does not appear the victim had any gang affiliation at all.
Residents from the neighborhood reported hearing multiple gunshots and observed a male individual running from the area immediately after the shooting. This possible suspect was described as an unknown race male 5'8", 18-23 years old, thin build with a light complexion and wearing a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a red beanie.
Witnesses in the area reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing an 18 to 23-year old male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, running from the area immediately after the shots were fired.
About 40 minutes later, police responded to a shooting in the area of North Hebron and Alisal. Police say when they arrived on scene, they found a man in his 20s with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses say they heard the gunfire, and reported seeing a man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt running from the scene. Salinas Police say they don't know if the shooting was gang-related or related, and are investigating to see if the shootings are connected.
