MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. - Monterey County has made Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Top 10 List of Wine Destinations in the World. The elite list was announced this week and places like Napa Valley and Sonoma were left off.
Monterey County was one of three regions in the United States that made the list, but the only one from California.
Wine growers from Hahn Estates said its because of the cheap land and the climate that allows growers to experiment and make unique blends.
"Those conditions, where it stays very, very cool by the bay creates a Marine layer so we have very foggy conditions during the morning hours of the summer; and then in the afternoon, we have very strong winds. All that contributes to a very long growing season," explained Director of Viticulture, Andy Mitchell.
