SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria Police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2013. Police responded Tuesday night to reports of shots fired on the 500 block of W. Mill Street. As they arrived, Police found a Hispanic man in his 20s lying in the street with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Marian Medical Center where he died.
Police add, "during the investigation, witnesses provided investigators with a description of a vehicle leaving the scene immediately after the shooting. During their investigative efforts, detectives located a vehicle matching the description, which is now in their custody.
At this point, the investigation is continuing in an effort to identify persons of interest. Further information will be released as the investigation progresses.
