Greenfield Man Sentenced 37 Years to Life for Murdering a Baby

MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Monterey County District Attorney's Office said 21-year old Diego Burgos was sentenced 37 years to life in prison for murdering a 10-month old baby boy.

The DA's office said Burgos was convicted on September 17th 2012 for murdering his girlfriend's son Camilo Miramontes.

The jury convicted Burgos of assaulting the baby causing death, felony child endangerment and felony child abuse.

The DA's office said before the baby was murdered Burgos tortured the child for weeks. The boy was killed by blunt force trauma to the head which fractured his skull. The child also suffered two broken legs, bruising to the face and ankles.

The mother of the child, Aracely Mares is facing felony child endangerment charges and is expected to appear in court on January 30th.
