SALINAS, Calif. - The Monterey County Sheriff's Department is looking for 29-year old James Rimbey, an inmate who walked away from the Monterey County Jail.
Salinas Police, California Highway Patrol and the Monterey County Probation Department were called out to search for Rimbey around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, when it was first discovered the inmate was missing. Rimbey was assigned to an inmate work crew and was doing some yard work outside when he walked off.
Witnesses told police they saw Rimbey running towards the Natividad Creek Park soccer fields. Officers were unable to locate him.
According to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office, Rimbey was serving a 3-year sentence for burglary. It's not believed Rimbey is armed or dangerous, but law enforcement is asking the public to phone in any kind of suspicious activity. Officers said the inmate is considered low-risk and is not considered to be violent.
He is described as 5'10'' weighing 180 lbs with green eyes and brown hair.
