GOLETA, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Fire responded to a structure fire in Isla Vista, Thursday afternoon. The report of the fire came in just around 1:21pm, at 6690 Abrego Road.
According to Santa Barbara County Fire:
SBC FD responded three engines, a ladder truck, breathing support unit, an investigator and a battalion chief to the scene. A second alarm was initiated but was canceled upon knockdown of the fire. SBC FD was assisted by UCSB Police, SB Sheriff's Dept., AMR and the Gas Company.
First arriving firefighters found fire showing from the third floor of a three story, multiunit apartment complex. Firefighters gained access to the apartment, extinguished the fire and searched for victims. The unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The fire was confined to the living room of the two bedroom apartment. The remaining portion of the apartment sustained moderate heat and smoke damage throughout.
The fire was knocked down at 1:35 pm and confined to the room of origin. The building's alarm 4410 Cathedral Oaks Road, Santa Barbara, CA 93110 system malfunctioned. However, the smoke detectors in the apartment were in working order.
The adjoining apartments were evacuated. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
