SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Central Coast News believes to build a stronger community, you must invest in it. That's why we created the "One Million Dollar Community Investment" campaign.
Kids in Santa Barbara are raising money to help other kids in their own classroom and around the world in a charity completely run by them.
Student Johnny Unzueta lends a hand two days before the big night of "Kids Helping Kids'" big benefit concert.
The organization is entirely student-run and raises funds for other kids in need from their very own classroom to kids around the globe.
Bur for Johnny, it's more than a charitable organization.
Last year, his family went through rough financial times when his parents divorced.
"It touched my heart because he didn't tell anyone," says Kids Helping Kids CEO Jordan Lund. "No body knew about it except for a couple of people and said 'hey this is a kid that we can help. We can really help this guy out. I think we really should."
The organization offered support to Unzueta and his family.
"They were able to help my mom with buying groceries, help me pay for books and AP testing," says Unzueta.
The organization is creating baskets for their silent auction. All items are donated by local businesses and the money made will help other kids like Johnny.
"It's really heartwarming," says Unzueta. "It's got to know that there are actually good people out there."
"Kids Helping Kids" is holding it's fundraiser gala at Granada Theater this Saturday.
