SANTA BARBARA CO, Calif. - Santa Barbara County Fire Department knocked out a fire off of North San Marcos Road.  And according to SBC Fire, there was live ammunition on the property.

Here is a timeline regarding the fire by SBC FD:

At 8:59 am, Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBC FD) responded to a structure fire, located at 2040 N. San Marcos Rd.

SBC FD responded three engines, an investigator and a battalion chief to the scene. SBC FD was assisted by US Forest Service, San Marcos Pass Volunteer Fire Department, Painted Cave Volunteer Fire Department, and the Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit(ASU).

First arriving firefighters found a fire burning in the bottom of a canyon. Access to the fire was difficult due to steep, narrow roads. After gaining access to the fire, firefighters found a yurt and deck fully involved in fire. The fire spread to surrounding vegetation.

A propane tank nearby was venting and there were numerous small "pops" due to burning stored ammunition. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to nearby structures and vegetation with hose lines, and water drops from the ASU helicopter. The fire was held to less than a half-acre. The fire was knocked down at 9:45 am.

Firefighters will continue to mop up the fire for most of the afternoon. The fire took place in an area with a small group of structures converted into living space. Santa Barbara County Building officials were notified.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
