SALINAS, Calif. -- Investigators are still looking for a suspect who hit a man in the face with a sledgehammer then took off.
Officers said it happened Monday around 5:15 p.m. at 714 East Market Street. Salinas police said Primo Auto Sales had a car blocking the driveway of the business next door at 700 East Market Street. Investigators said the suspect, who did not live at the residence whose driveway was blocked, got upset. The suspect told the employees at Primo Auto to move the car or he would start smashing the car's windows. Two workers came out to move the vehicle while the suspect held a sledgehammer nearby.
Police said the suspect started arguing with the employees again and hit a 36-year old victim in the face with the sledgehammer. Officers said the victim grabbed the sledgehammer before the suspect could hit him again, then the suspect punched the victim in the face.
Investigators said the suspect fled in a light blue VW Passat before police arrived. They said the suspect is described as a Hispanic male who is about 5'8'' to 5'10'' and weighs about 180 lbs. The suspect was wearing a white t-shirt, khaki pants and work boots.
