SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria Police and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Officers make an arrest in Santa Maria that forced some Santa Maria Bonita School District schools to go on lockdown.

According to the Sheriff's Department, there was an investigation initiated by their gang deputies.  Uniformed officers from the Santa Maria Police Department and some plain clothes deputies arrested a suspect who is now in our custody.

Meanwhile Santa Maria Police issued the following statement:

SMPD Officers Assisted SBSO in following a vehicle with the occupant being wanted for robbery.  As a precautionary measure the local schools were placed on lockdown.  The vehicle was stopped in the North-west section of the city and the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

During the lockdown of the schools a Fesler Jr. High student called family members and miss communicated that there was a man on campus with a gun.  The family member then contacted SMPD.

Officers responded quickly to the school, securing the students and staff.  Further investigation revealed the miscommunication with the student to family members.  At no time, students or school staff were in any danger.
