SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- Over 150 years of history is locked away in a vault in San Luis Obispo. The city wants your help preserving it.
The records date back to its pioneer town days; a lot of the records are even hand written. Many of the records have been preserved with about 10-thousand dollars of donations. "The original minutes were hand written and those have been preserved as well as the original ordinances and resolutions that have survived," said City Historian, Joseph Carotenuti.
There's still a lot to that needs to be done. You can see a big difference from a book that has been preserved and one that hasn't, but preservation is costly. It's about 15-hundred dollars for each volume and the city is asking for donations, so it can hold onto to all this history forever. "You don't know where you're going unless you know where you've been and this is extremely important as a city evolves and develops itself," said Carotenuti.
Once these records are preserved they will be bound in a book, put on tape and DVD. The city clerk recorder is hoping to digitize them for the public.
