SANTA MARIA, Calif.- The city of Santa Maria hosted two meetings Thursday for volunteers helping in a county-wide homeless survey.
Volunteers met at the Church For Life on Skyway to be trained. The survey is designed to discover how many individuals and families are living on the streets. Hundreds of volunteers will help in next week's survey, which will measure the amount of people who need attention.
"The surveys involve finding out about their health needs, their housing needs, distinguishing veterans, and creating a list of people we know we have to help find housing for and making sure their medical needs and things like that are met," said Kirsten Cahoon, Good Samaritan Shelter.
Training sessions will also be held in Lompoc and Santa Barbara Friday and Saturday.
Below is the training information:
Lompoc: Friday, Jan. 18, 2-4pm and 6-8pm, New Life Christian Center, 816 North C Street
Santa Barbara: (Goleta, Isla Vista, and Caprinteria) Saturday, Jan. 19 1pm-4pm, Earl Warren Showgrounds, Warren Hall, 3400 Calle Real
