SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif- Dash cams they let us see what police do from behind the wheel and body cams let us follow their every move. A couple different law enforcement agencies are taking advantage of them, including the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Civil Division.
The cameras clip on and are easy to use. "You flip this little door down here and as you can see there's a camera lens there and there's a small microphone and the minute you flip that down it starts recording," said Commander Brian Hascall as he showed the camera.
The camera has audio and video and deputies use them when they are serving papers such as restraining orders. Commander Hascall said the cameras have proved successful over the past two years. "If somebody calls me and accuses a deputy for being rude to them while they are serving them civil process its a very easy thing for me to go back and look at the video and audio to determine whether that allegation is true or not," said Hascall.
Sheriff's deputies also use these cameras in the jail. As for other law enforcement in San Luis Obispo County, only Grover Beach Police have them, and Pismo Beach Police will have them in the next couple months.
