Santa Maria Police Go After Drunk Drivers Friday Night

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - Santa Maria Police conducted a DUI and Driver's License Checkpoint on the 500 block of E. Main Friday night.

The checkpoint happened between 6:00 PM to 02:00 am and according to Police, one driver was evaluated for DUI, no drivers were arrested for DUI, three drivers were cited for driving while unlicensed, and one driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.

All of the vehicles driven by the unlicensed drivers were subsequently released to a licensed driver.

A total of 1,011 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 548 being screened by officers.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
