Eastern Washington University Women's basketball used a great first half to secure a 63-38 victory over Northern Colorado Bears, Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles made 9-of-16 long-range shots for a season high 56 percent. It was a different story for the Bears, who went 0-for-22 from three-point range.
With the win, EWU (9-8, 5-3, Big Sky) moves into third place in the standings and move within just a ½ game behind Montana, for second place, and two games behind conference leading Montana State.
Making her first career start as an Eagle, redshirt- freshman Hayley Hodgins went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor ending up with a career high 18 points. She was a perfect 3-of-3 from downtown.
Eastern closed out the first period on a 13-0 run shooting 65 percent from the field and 78 percent from downtown, enjoying a 25-point advantage at halftime.
Junior Laura Hughes and sophomore Lexie Nelson each scored 11 points apiece, and senior Carrie Ojeda scored eight.
The Eagles finished the game shooting 53.5 percent from the field, with 15 assists. Sophomore Kylie Huerta tied her career high with seven assists, and redshirt-freshman Kayleigh Ryan had a career high seven rebounds.
The Bears made just 14-for-63 shots in the game totaling 22.2 percent. Lauren Oosdyke led the team with 9 points and 10 rebounds
Eastern's next game will Monday, January 21 on the road at Portland State.
