SANTA MARIA - A Santa Maria Man will stand trial for the attempted murder of a CHP Officer who shot at him several times.
18 year old Michael Ledesma is the lone survivor of a string of officer-involved shootings in northern Santa Barbara County last year.
Following a two day preliminary hearing, a judge in Santa Maria ruled there is sufficient evidence to put Ledesma on trial for attempted murder of a peace officer, assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment with a gang enhancement.
Ledesma was shot by the CHP officer last July near Los Alamos after his then-girlfriend called 911 and said Ledesma was threatening to kill himself and harm her and her two year old daughter as they were driving around in the area.
A Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department "dash cam" video captured the shooting of Ledesma by the CHP Officer who testified Ledesma was about to attack him with a knife before he opened fire. Ledesma will be re-arraigned on the charges against him next month before a trial date is set.
He remains in Santa Barbara County jail.
