ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Arroyo Grande leaders have said their police station needs replacing and tonight the talk will heat up at the city council meeting.
Previous tax measures to get money for a new station in Arroyo Grande have failed, so the city is taking a step to get some funding for this new station.
The city failed to get a two-thirds vote on two previous tax measures to fund a new station. So back in November the city council gave the thumbs up to start looking for other ways to get funding. There are 3 city owned properties on West Branch Street and the city wants to sell them to help get money for this new station.
City council will discuss the different options they have to go about getting these properties sold off.
Arroyo Grande City Manager Steven Adams says, "the real question is how to handle the sale. You can do it through an auction. You can do it through multiple listings. Or you can do it through selecting a realtor."
Adams says the city would prefer to have a realtor handle the selling. He says going that route would most likely get the city the most money from a sale.
The city has its eye on a location on West Branch Street for the new station but there's already a proposed project for a recreation center there. If that project cannot come up with the money, then the city could end up using that location for the new station. Adams says they'll know for sure by March.
