SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif- A 21-year-old from Texas, Caleb Werntz was reported missing 10 days ago. Wednesday he called his mother 130-miles from Paso Robles, telling her he was never lost.
His mother Lori Zullo was overcome with relief. Her son told her he had been riding his bike 30 miles a day to go to northern California. "He got online to let me know he was ok, it's the first time he's been able to get to a computer, so he got online and said he was very astonished," said Lori Zullo, Caleb's mother.
Zullo said she began a search for him with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office and all over social media because he had never gone this long without contacting her. "He's 21 now so it's him finding his own way now, it's the first time I've lost contact with him," said Zullo.
Werntz told his mother he was going to be traveling north and that he doesn't have a plan or destination, she is just happy he's alright. "I'm overwhelmed I mean I'm just so thankful for everybody especially for my sister Nancy and my best friend Carry in Chicago who organized all this, I was in no shape to do any of this I was just hysterical not knowing where Caleb was," said Zullo.
Nancy said she will be buying her son a phone on Friday so that they don't lose contact like this again.
