SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – More than 70 California Army National Guard soldiers returned home from Afghanistan from a platoon-sized element from the Camp San Luis Obispo-based 649th Military Police Company and the Fresno-based 1072nd Transportation Company.
Soldiers completed a yearlong logistics and security mission for Operation Enduring Freedom.
Both teams completed about 380 combat convoy operations, covering 400,000 miles across Northeastern Afghanistan.
The soldiers assisted in the development and construction of a strategic logistics hub and provided key intelligence to the International Security Assistance Force.
California National Guard soldiers have deployed more than 38,000 times since the attacks on 9/11, and 29 of those were killed while deployed to combat zones overseas.
