Driver in Injury Accident Near Santa Maria Under the Influence

NEAR SANTA MARIA, Calif. --The driver of the BMW involved in a crash with a big rig Tuesday morning on Highway 166 about .2 miles from Highway 101 was driving under the influence according to the California Highway Patrol.

The BMW drifted from westbound Highway 166 to the eastbound lane, colliding with the big rig.

The truck flipped onto its side after the driver tried to avoid the BMW.

The driver of the BMW was taken to the hospital with major injuries after being trapped for more than 30 minutes.

Traffic is currently being diverted around the accident.

The CHP does not know when it will be cleared up, but they do expect the closure to last through the morning commute.
