GOLETA, Calif. - One homeless man is behind bars for allegedly stabbing a victim near the CVS Pharmacy at the Turnpike Center, forcing police to put two local schools on lockdown.
Officers arrested 30-year-old Luis Velasquez for allegedly stabbing another transient in the upper shoulder, then allegedly hitting another transient with a blunt object, who was trying to help out. Both men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
El Camino School and San Marcos High School were put on lockdown as a precautionary measure for about 30 minutes, as Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies searched for the suspect.
They found Velasquez hiding in the homeless encampment and arrested him. They booked him into Santa Barbara County Jail on $30,000 dollars bail.
