Amber Alert Canceled, Police Say Abduction was a Hoax

Posted: Updated:

OAKLAND, Calif- A statewide AMBER Alert was issued out of Oakland, Friday morning, but police now believe the kidnapping was a hoax.

Oakland Police say they received a domestic violence call just before 1 a.m. about a man beating his wife. According to police, the woman said she was able to get out of the home with her child and into a car but that's when the man began to chase her, ending with his car ramming into her's.

According to the woman, that is when the man, Kim Tolefree, forced his way into the woman's car and stole her daughter.

Tolefree turned himself over to the police when he saw the Amber Alert, reported several local news stations.

Police now believe that the missing child does not exist and at this point they are trying to determine if the assault even happened.
