PRUNUEDALE, Calif. -- Cal Fire said the fire started around 10:30 a.m. in a eucalyptus grove on a hill off of Maher Road in Royal Oaks. Firefighters dispatched a helicopter and ground crews to fight the flames.
The fire has burned about an acre and a half. Firefighters said as of noon the fire was 60% contained, they expect the fire to be out by 2:00 p.m.
Fire crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. Residents in the area told Central Coast News that there were controlled burns in the area a few days ago, and suspect old embers to have caused the fire.
