PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - It's another huge event that puts central coast streets and highways to the test.
"We were 166 last year so our goal is 170,000 people for the week," said Steve John, Monterey Peninsula Foundation CEO.
And to make the event a success for everyone, CHP and volunteers help direct traffic around the area.
"We are assigning extra officer duties so we will have a lot of extra officers out on the road, not only working patrol around the area but also working fixed post near Pebble Beach," explained CHP Officer, Robert Lehman.
Lehman said officers prepare for it every year and know what to expect and where traffic gets the most congested.
Steve John said his goal is for fans to use the city shuttles to nearby cities on the peninsula.
"We'd actually love if people take the city shuttles cause it gets them back into the community."
As for Officer Lehman, he said the extra officers on duty are hired by the organization so don't expect less police patrolling areas not around the event.
"It's extremely important because the motorist that are attending the event are coming in off 101 in Monterey and north county and highway one in the Santa Cruz area."
