San Luis Obispo High Mourns Loss Of Teen Killed In Crash

Posted: Updated:

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- A community is mourning the loss of a teenage boy who died in a car crash earlier this week.

Alex Maier was only seventeen when he died Wednesday.

Family, friends  and faculty of San Luis Obispo High School remembered him at a memorial on Holt Field.

Maier registered as an organ donor at a very young age. He donated his organs, helping to save the lives of six others.

His soccer teammates wore T-shirts bearing his number, 23.

"He lived a mile from me," says teammate Nathan McWhorter. "That's going to be the hardest thing to miss from him. Just him always being there, no matter what."

The school set up a scholarship fund in his memory.
