SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif- A jury has found Christopher Shumey, the man accused of killing his mother at his San Luis Obispo home, guilty of second degree murder.

Shumey is accused of killing 65 year old Karen Shumey, a Vandenberg Middle School teacher, with a shotgun in September of 2011.

In addition to the second degree murder charge, Shumey was also found guilty for assaulting a San Luis Obispo police officer.

Jurors will reconvene on Thursday to decide whether or not Shumey was sane at the time he committed this crime.

Once the sanity verdict is reached, a sentencing date will be set.
